Review

This is official description

MyDefrag is a disk defragmenter and optimizer (a maintenance utility to make your harddisk faster) for Windows 2000, 2003, XP, Vista, 2008, Win7, and for X64. It is freeware, no time limit, fully functional, no advertisements. Fast, low overhead, with many optimization strategies, can handle floppies, USB disks, memory sticks, and anything else that looks like a disk to Windows. Included are a set of easy to use scripts for endusers, a scripting engine for demanding users, a screensaver, and a combined Windows plus commandline version that can be scheduled by the Windows task scheduler or for use from administrator script.
MyDefrag is extremely solid because it is based on the standard defragmentation API by Microsoft, a system library that is included in Windows 2000, 2003, XP, Vista, 2008, and Win7. Most defragmenters are based on this API, including the free defragmenter that comes with Windows and many commercial defragmenters. Basically all MyDefrag does is send "move this file to that location" commands to the API. The API is part of the operating system and can safely move almost any file on the disk, without risk and while the computer is in full use.

The following review written by one of the Software Informer contributors applies to version 3.3

JKDefrag by Jeroene Kessels has been created to help you keep your hard disk ordered and defragmented, in order to optimize and improve your system performance. The application allows you to scan your registry searching for fragmented files and consequently proceeding to relocate those files onto contiguous memory blocks. A very remarkable feature is that this program can do all the scanning in the background. Therefore you won't notice the program is working.
You can customize the way the program performs the defragmentation process, but you can only do this through the command line. The program has another two features. Firstly, it can be run inside a MSDOS window. Secondly, it can be set up to work as a screensaver. This means that it only work when your PC is idle.
The program is available in different languages; however, you have to download different versions of the program for each language. JKDefrag is available in English, French, German, Spanish and Chinese (thanks to contributors).
The only drawback is that the interface is very poor and old fashioned.
This program is distributed as freeware. Of course, it doesn't have as many tools as other industry leading utilities, but it makes a really good job.
It is compatible with Windows 2000/2003/XP/Vista/2008 (including 64 bits versions).
  • Very light.
  • Freeware.
  • Fast.
  • Old fashioned interface.
  • Difficult to customize the defrag process.

What's new in version 4.3

The program is now called "MyDefrag", because it has a scripting language and you can customize just about every aspect of it. It is no longer the "JK" (Jeroen Kessels) defragger, but "my" (your) defragger!
* Fully functional freeware.
* With scripting language.
* Improved interface.
* Higher speed.
* Better optimization.
* Lower memory usage.
* Extensive documentation.
* Easier to install.
